the SECRET
“You create your own universe as you go along.” -Winston Churchill
“The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can
alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.” -William James
“You want to become aware of your thoughts, you want to choose
your thoughts carefully and you want to have fun with this, because you
are the masterpiece of your own life.” – Joe Vitale
I was inspired by a documentary this
week, so if you have a minute in between studying and panicking, take a
look. It’s called “the Secret”. And what is this secret?
It’s very simple. It’s the Law of Attraction.
It’s a modern scientific theory that has to do with the effect of
”like attracts like”. It combines science and philosophy, in the sense
that it bases itself on the idea from physics that everything, if taken
to the basic level, is made up of energy. And thus, any thought you have
is not just a thought, but is also a strong impulse of energy, that
makes a difference in the flow of events in your life.
The Law states: I
attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention, or energy to;
whether wanted or unwanted. If you think about being poor, lonely,
unwanted and believe your thoughts, then guess what? That is exactly
what you’ll be. This Law applies to your life and every other person’s
life on the planet. Like all laws, it is impartial and impersonal, which
means it works when you want it to and when you don’t want it to.
This has happened, I’m sure, to nearly everyone. Think about it. If
you spend days afraid something will happen, it will most surely happen.
And when you are in a bad situation, everything seems to get worse and
worse. And on the contrary, happy people seem to have good things happen
to them.
You do not need to accept this as your new life philosophy,
especially since there are many criticisms of this theory (well, just as
any theory…) But try to pay attention to it. What I can guarantee is
that it wont hurt you to just make some small changes in your attitude
and lifestyle. And how do you know? Maybe this can dramatically alter
your life.
Simply think positively. Think about what you want in life. Make a
list. Stay away from negatives, such as ”I don’t want to be alone”, or
”I don’t want to be sad.” THINK IN THE POSITIVE.
“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations.
I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace
rally, I’ll be there.” -Mother Teresa
What I think is a good idea is just to start to be aware of your
thoughts. If you’re sad, just fake a smile. You’ll feel better even if
you’re pretending. It’s like a placebo effect at first, but once the
endorphins start flowing in your body, you will feel genuinely better.
Pay attention to the music you listen to. Is it focused on negative
emotions? What kind of things you discuss with friends? Do you spend all
your time whining about your problems instead of finding solutions?
Imagine starting to believe in yourself and your infinite
possibilities. Imagine believing you deserve everything you want out of
life. Imagine getting everything you want out of life. Feel as if you
already accomplished it.
If even you don’t believe in it, then how can you expect to achieve it?
Once you apply the Law of Attraction everything is possible.
“When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be awesome instead… True story !” – Barney Stinson, from How I Met Your Mother.
On Medicine and other disasters
"On the basis of what is known about the roles of the electrical,
magnetic, elastic, acoustic, thermal, gravitational and photonic
energies in living systems, it appears that there are many energetic
systems in the living body and many ways of influencing them. What we
refer to as the "living state" and as "health" are all of these systems,
both known and unknown, functioning collectively, cooperatively and
synergistically. The debate about whether there is such a thing as
"Healing Energy" or life force is being replaced with the study of the
interactions between the biological energy fields, structures and
functions.'' - James Oschman, PHD
"We are a multidimensional creation with coexisting 'bodies'...Our physical body is composed of matter; our subtle body is energy,
thought and emotions; and our causal body is a spiritual source of energy.
Health is the integration of all aspects of our being." -Mirka Knaster
""It is a wise mans part, rather to avoid sickness, than to wish for medicines.'"- Thomas More, Utopia
"The greatest mistake in the treatment of diseases is that there are physicians for the body and physicians for the soul, although the two cannot be separated." -Plato
"Treatment originates outside you; healing comes from within." -Andrew Weil, M.D.
"The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease." - William Osler
I have long wanted to write
on this subject, but knowing what controversy it might cause, I hesitated and
avoided it. But...finally.. here it is. My view on medicine.
First of all let me say
that I greatly respect the science that is at the base of modern medicine. It
was an incredible leap between the medicine of say, the Renaissance era, to
where we are now. With our superb technologies and understanding of how things
work. It's improved people's lives greatly, and extended them by many years.
People can now travel or just go to public places without the risk of
catching some lethal disease. Now that I got that out of the way...
Modern Medicine has lost
its way. In theory, it is a practice that serves to use science to understand
the human body, find causes of illnesses and cure them, or eliminate the possibility
of catching them altogether.
Great idea.. But
practically what do we have?
Chaos. Absolute chaos. And
capitalism. It's all about money. And as much as I hate to support the ''global
conspiracy'' theory of how the government is against us, in this case, I have
to say, they have a point:
Pills are replaced with
placebos. Doctors advertise medication. New medications are developed that are
similar in properties as heroin, to get people addicted to it. And when a
resistance is built up by the immune system, they reach for stronger, more
expensive drugs. Medicine is advertised and colored to be consumer-friendly.
There are pills for happiness. For any little twitch your body makes,
there is a pill to stop it. WE ARE SEDATING OUR BODIES INTO STUPIDITY.
Through illnesses our body
communicates with us. It's the only way it has!! So when your head hurts, as
yourself WHY, not just pop a pill and wait for it to go away.
One of the biggest problems
in Modern Medicine is that it is mostly targeted at treating the consequences
of illnesses, but not the causes.
And many people disagree
with me here. ''Of course it treats causes!"
Let me give a bit of an extreme example:
Extreme headache --> Tumor.
aka
Result --> Cause
Solution: cut it out.
Let me give a bit of an extreme example:
Extreme headache --> Tumor.
aka
Result --> Cause
Solution: cut it out.
NO. I want to ask you WHY
the tumor formed. WHY. It could have formed, it could have not. What factors
influenced it? And how do we eliminate these factors in the future? That is the
real cause.
I do not only blame doctors
for this. If people demanded real treatment, they would provide it I'm sure.
But people don't want it. They want a quick fix. They want to pop a pill and go
on watching TV and eating their french fries.
I believe in alternative
medicine, as it is labeled. By definition it is anything that does not fall
within the realm of ''conventional medicine''. It's something different. BUT
DIFFERENT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S WRONG.
The Body is such a complex
system. It is not a piece of living meat.
"each
and every cell in the body is not only intelligent, but conscious too, in the
sense that it can independently make decisions on the communications it sends
to other cells. There are approximately 10 trillion cells in the body. Yet each
of those cells signals, on average, to at least 10,000 other cells every
day." (http://reversethinking.typepad.com/weblog/2010/07/how-the-body-thinks.html)
I believe in the System of
Unity of Mind, Body and Spirit.
And before you give me that
cynical look, let me explain what I mean.
This is not some African
voodoo, ok?
It's so shocking to me to
hear that people, when asked about religion and God, are so passionate and full
of faith, but when asked about healing energies, auras, spirits or karma, look
at me like I come from a different planet.
SPIRITUALITY SHOULD NOT BE
SEPARATED FROM EVERYDAY LIFE.
If I got anything from
conventional religious teachings, its this: God is everywhere. God is in each of us.
So why is medicine so
separate from it? There is nothing spiritual in conventional medicine. Simply,
it's afraid of spirituality. Because when it has it's facts and experiments,
it's safe and protected. It's in control. But when it comes to spirituality,
it's walking on ice.
But its impossible to
separate the two! The Body is not a piece of meat, again. It has a physical,
intellectual AND spiritual side.
We are conscious beings. We
have souls. Does anyone doubt that? (If any of you do, please, then, tell me
what separates us from animals?)
Our Bodies have energy.
They give off energy. They use energy.. And this is not hippie bullshit, this
is real. ENERGY IS A TERM FROM PHYSICS. There are sooooo many PHDs from physics
that, at a certain point in their research, came to accept God and Energy.
HUMANS ARE NOT ALL KNOWING.
Just because there are things that we cannot explain, or do not understand, or
do not see physically, THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT THEY DONT EXIST.
For me, the most logical
thing of all is to say, that the unknown aspect of ''science'' is, actually,
what we call God. It's the unknown forces.
After all, centuries ago,
people didn't understand how weather worked, so they invented Gods to represent
forces of nature. Now they seem stupid to us, and primitive. So WHY, please
tell me, isn't it possible that we are primitive in our understandings as well?
When Galileo said that the
Earth wasn't the center of our galaxy, people called him insane. Why is
''different'' necessarily ''wrong'''?
Just because it's not
''conventional''? It hasn't been accepted by the masses so it doesn't deserve
to be considered? THINK.
My system is very
simple.
The body is strong and
intelligent enough to withstand any illness.
To sustain it in this
state, it must be healthy, both physically (eating organic, pure, healthy food,
drinking clean water, exercising regularly), intellectually (the mind must be
kept busy, and given enough rest) and spiritually (there must be harmony in our
souls.)
Any illness that arises
is a result of the failure of one of these systems.
Physical:
All the chemical, genetic
modifications, the dyes, the excess saturated fats have an EXTREMELY bad effect
on your body. How could they not? THINK. (Examples: Certain types of crops in
the US are sprayed with a special chemical to keep bugs away. And this chemical
is absorbed into the crop, and then eaten by us. IF BUGS DONT EAT THE CROPS, WHY
WOULD YOU? They are spraying them, literally, with POISON.)
The processing of food is
also a very important aspect to mention..
Do you honestly think the
0.3% fruit juice concentrate that you find in Fanta for example is the same as
drinking fresh orange juice?? Your body needs LIVE vitamins. Natural ones, so
it can use them. You're giving it dead, painted vitamins, that have been
chocked, beaten, then filled with bubbles and put into a plastic container.
Visual enough?
And as to cooking food.. should I even mention frying, or is it self-explanatory? Cooking a vegetable in boiling oil kills any minerals or vitamins that it had in it. It goes from being a vegetable... to something like a piece of plastic covered in crunchy oil, in terms of health value at least.
Intellectual:
If the mind isn't working,
it is rotting away. Violent video games, most television shows, most of the time- social networking sites, porn, even sometimes
magazines. They stupidify the mind, focusing it on consumerist values, sex, or
money.
As for sleep: Not getting enough rest
makes your mind exhausted so it cannot function properly. pretty straightforward.
Spiritual:
Now this is the most fun
one: Simply put: every person
has an aura, a sphere of energy around them, and this energy is not stable, it
is connected to the higher energies. Any time something goes wrong with the
harmony of energy, it corresponds to a certain point in our aura, and so, on
our body. It is very much connected to the asian system of chakras and the flow
of energy.
Every illness, pain, etc.
can be read and understood.
The right side of our body
represents the female side, the left- the male.
The throat corresponds to
the fifth chakra, Vishuddha,
the chakra of
communication.The feet – to material
possessions and concepts, such as money. The nose corresponds to pride. The
head- to our outlook on life and thoughts. And so on. (Research this in more
detail or ask me for references. A famous researcher on this subject was Luule
Viilma, an Estonian doctor)
All blockages in the flow of energy causes problems.
Any disturbance of energy, such as anger, jealously, hatred, etc. creates problems and eventually illnesses in the corresponding areas.
If your pride was hurt, you will get a runny nose, or catch the flu. If you
didn’t speak your mind – a sore throat. If you were angry with your father
about financial issues, you will accidentally drop a heavy object on your left
foot. Or it might spasm up and start hurting without a physical factor like dropping something on it. IT WORKS.
It may sound silly, but it truly works. And doctors something shrug their shoulders at such things, because such problems are not always deep enough to be seen on a materialistic level.
For
example, have you ever had pains, and went to the doctor and they couldn’t tell
you anything? They made scans, but they were clean. “There is nothing there,”
the doctor may have told you. “But what hurts then?” You ask in response.
In high school I would have
terrible, sharp pains in my lower stomach, on the left side. Similar to pains
of an infection in the appendix, but it was never that. Such pains, they would
come suddenly, and so sharply, that I wouldn’t be able to move, and would
sometimes loose consciousness. I went to all the doctors I could find. But in
the place where the pains were concentrated, THERE WAS NOTHING THERE. No organ,
nothing. Nothing could hurt there, because there was nothing there to hurt.
Doctors shrugged at me.
So, if I tell you it was a
block in my flow of energy, you may or may not believe me.
But as we follow this
system in my entire family, when I finished high school I took the initiation
into the system of Reiki healers. I am a first level Reiki healer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiki) And since
then I’ve never had the pains come back.
Also let me comment on something else: The idea that such illnesses as colds and the flu come from cold weather. Ok, this is just bullshit. What does the cold weather do to your body? Ok, it MAY challenge your immune system. So it's your bad immune system that gets you sick, not a little cold weather. Silly people! Why don't we have a similar sickness connected to very hot weather then? What's the difference, theyre both extremes? Think!!
And about the appendix-removing craze people have developed (to add to the wisdom teeth removal craze). It's so funny how medicine decided that some things in the body are just ''extra'' and should be cut out. ONLY LATER... they found out that the appendix isn't actually completely useless and generates some kind of hormone. HAHA! and I thought God was just silly and gave us an extra body part.. silly me..
When our hand hurts, is the first thing we think of that we have to cut it off???

Another aspect: The most terrible illness of our century is AIDS.
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
Acquired: not something we are born with
Immunodeficiency: having a weak immune system
Syndrome.
The worst illness of our time is a illness that kills the immune system. Ironic isn't it? Since our society is so good at doing that on it's own. With it's dead, plastic, colored food, drinks made of liquid sugar and food dye, cigarettes and alcohol (last two are self-explanatory), machines that do all the thinking and working instead of us, a system of financial slavery that makes everything too expensive, and makes us borrow money from the system in a way that it's physically impossible to return back, psychological stress, dirty, polluted air and water. What is the world coming to? And why do we allow this?
T.h.i.n.k.
Most of the time when something like
alternative medication is mentioned, people think of acupuncture, iridology,
yoga, herbs, etc. I could go into details about each of these and what amazing
techniques they are, but I will leave that researching to you, my readers. I
will let you take initiative and find some details on your own.. I will say
this:
The past 5 years I have cured all of my winter-related illnesses from
runny nose, to a severe flu in which I was in bed, too weak to stand up for 4
days straight and unable to eat, I cured them all with herbal teas. That is all
I will say.
Of course, to each their
own.
Ultimately, WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN WORKS FOR YOU. It’s true.
But I urge you to be open
to things, and consider this system. At least consider it.
At least the part of it
that says that health is not about pills and doctors, its about living life in
a healthy way, in touch with nature, and taking care of your body.
Your body is
the temple of your soul. It’s the only one you get in this life, so take care
of it.
Think. Be healthy.
Whats your script?
"We are born into a system. The world is already formed beforehand. It seems that your life is just beginning, but you are never given a blank page. You are given a script." - Unknown
''Create the world you dream with every choice you make.'' -Stephen C. Paul
When we are born, we are given a script called ''This is what your life should be like"
And we don't really have much of a choice in the matter.
And we start playing:
The first chapter, childhood.
Pre-school, playing with toys, learning to ride a bike, running around screaming in happiness, eating ice cream and candy until your stomach hurts.
Then, teenage years.
School, being moody, doing crazy things, not listening to your parents, experimenting, being messy, loving, crying, piercing your tongue.
Young adult
University, relationships, sex, car, parties, alcohol.
Adult
Marriage, children, big house, job, money.
Senior
Retirement
My question is, ''is that all?''
Really, is that all life has to offer? Don't we have any choice?
Of course we do. But when we people try to get away from the script, they are judged. Severely. They are labeled. ''weird'', ''rebellious'', ''anti-____''.
but all they try to do is do something different.
Different isn't wrong. That's a stereotype I really think that people should be aware of and try to let go. Its not wrong, weird or anti-anything. It's just different. We are all unique beings. We have the right to choose our path in life. Who says we all have to choose the same one?
Does everybody really need to get 16+ years of education? Does everyone have to hate their parents when they are teenagers? Does everyone have to drink until passing out every weekend as college students?
Rhetorical questions, really. But why do we still give in to the stereotype? Even the most modern and open of us give in to it. ''Different is wrong. Discourage them. Make them come back to the mass of sameness''
Its sad, really.
An example: I have plenty of experience in living in historically Muslim countries. And what surprises me is that ''modern'' Muslim people drink alcohol, even though officially it's forbidden. But moreover, they judge Muslims who don't drink alcohol because of religious beliefs. They ask ''what's wrong with you?'', label them as conservative, or old fashioned. But who said that getting drunk is something everyone has to do?
Personally I prefer these things to be not forced by religion or cultural beliefs, but by your personal decisions. For example, I'm a vegetarian. Not because my parents, my church, God, animal protection organizations, dieting specialists, doctors, etc, told me so. Because I decided. That's it.
People ask me the reason, and they expect me to say one of these things. It's so much easier to use those things, to use an excuse, than to stand by your beliefs. Because without the support of the church, God, family behind you, you're alone. And you get judged for being different. Because it was your initiative to change something about your life. No one told you to. That's the hard way.
The example that inspired me to write this article is the story of Elizabeth Scharpf, that was published in the NY Times. She had everything going for her in her script. A top university and good-paying career ahead of her. But she decided to move to Nepal and teach underprivileged children.
( read about her story at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/24/magazine/24volunteerism-t.html )
Crazy? Weird? or Heroic?
What's the difference? It's in your attitude.
YOUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR REALITY.
What my point is, don't judge people. And choose for yourself. Don't accept things blindly. And be open for people's decisions. So what if it's a little far from what you're use to?
Let what needs to happen, happen
"A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it." ~Jean de La Fontaine

Intro
-----It has been lately pointed out to me that the tone of my writings is
somewhat feministic. Not that I don't like that, but I do want to try to make my blog a bit less womanizing, broaden the target audience a bit. So let me just switch that around a bit to just
being somewhat rebellious or radical. So hang in with me here.-----
There has long been controversy and discussion between whether a person controls his or her own life or whether it has already been predicted.
The latter bases itself mostly on religion: if our destiny is predetermined, then who determines it? Surely some higher power. And that's where God comes in.
Whereas the first bases itself on the modern notions of human superiority and domination. It's the belief that we are God(s). We are the prevalent race on Earth, everything else was made to serve us. We control our own destiny.
Right ?
It seems to me that the nature of truth is that it is always in the middle of two radical opposites. In the Ukrainian language referred to as the ''golden center''. Nothing that is absolute is really true, there are always different aspects. And both must be taken into consideration.
So what if it's a bit of both?
Honestly, to think that people are able to fully control their lives is silly. We know too little, we understand too little. We cannot know what will happen to us, or to the world, not the next day, not the next year, not even the next second. We have no control over certain things. And these things directly, or indirectly influence our little world. We cannot deny that.
So ultimately the notion that people control their own destiny is just something that we believe, because we refuse to give into the fear of the unknown factors that actually shape our destiny. We are afraid to let go and let things flow. What if they flow the ''wrong'' way? What if something was just not meant to be? How can we just give in to that? It's hard.
Now, of course this is not the absolute. I am not saying we should lay back and let life take us where we need to go. What's the point then? I believe that there are divine factors that influence our path, but we are still the ones that have to walk it. Now, maybe not EVERYTHING is predetermined. Little things are probably not. Unless they influence the big picture. Those decisions are probably monitored closely and influenced, if needed, by, let's say God, or maybe Angels. Spirits. Whatever label you prefer. Higher forces that we cannot explain or understand.
Seems like there are two aspects to this that always get me confused:
Testing and pushing away. Let me explain:
Sometimes it seems like if you really want something, you have to prove exactly how much you want it. You have to fight, through the pain, misery, maybe sacrifice, to prove that you ''deserve'' it. And there are success stories like that. Against all odds and boundaries, people do get what they want.
In other cases, it seems like the higher spirits are pushing you away from making a bad decision, from going in a direction that you shouldn't go.
My question is, how can you know the difference?
Maybe I'm taking this too far into religion and philosophy, but seriously, how can God expect us to understand His signs if He didn't send us a manual of how to interpret them?
If something goes wrong, is it a warning or is it a test?
I guess we can never really know for sure. Unless we can listen to our intuition and act on it. People have forgotten how to listen. And don't look at me like I'm crazy, it's been proven scientifically and mathematically. (read my article "Coincidence?" from 3/31/10
)
It does exist. And it could make our lives a lot easier if we knew how to listen. There are signs and answers everywhere. We just have either forgotten, or maybe we didn't really ever know how to interpret them.
Anyway, my point is, yes, we make decisions, but there is a part of our lives that we don't control. Some things have to happen, and we have to let them happen.
There was a story on the news a while back: A couple, man and woman, were late for their flight, that later crashed and everyone died. They got a car and rode to whatever place they needed to get to. And they got into a car accident. And both died. (A bit of a depressing example, but you get my point?)
I think its time that people stopped being so afraid to let go and tried to "relax into the unknown." Let go of all the
fear that is holding us back.
It's okay to trust in fate, in the hope that everything will turn out perfectly. Really.

Forgive me?
"Most of us can forgive and forget, we just don't want the other person to forget that we forgave." - Ivern Ball
"The weak can never forgive, forgiveness it the attribute of the strong." - Gandhi
The ability to forgive is one of those famously good attributes that all people believe they should have. It has been taught to us since we were children that it’s a good thing to do. But ultimately, why should we forgive? Or should we forgive at all? Are we ever obligated to forgive? What are the limits of forgiveness? Are some things simply unforgivable?
Let's
start simple: what is does it mean 'to forgive'?
· to
grant pardon for an offense
· to
cancel an indebtedness or liability
Ultimately,
forgiveness is simply letting go of the past and moving on. Whether it is a
selfish act (forgiving just to make yourself feel better), for the sake of the
relationship (out of love, or out of helplessness), or for the sake of the person,
forgiveness is absolute. Letting go of the past, with no strings attached.
In
the purest sense of the term, forgiveness is also an act of non-reciprocity.
That means you forgive people out of the kindness of your heart, not expecting
anything in return.
But
how realistic are those ideas nowadays?
In
the official system of laws there is no forgiveness: a person does something
wrong, they are punished. End of story. Anything different is an exception
to the rule. And usually, it is either illegal, or debatable.
But
what about in our everyday lives? In relationships? In the family? People make
mistakes all the time, and sometimes those mistakes are serious, but they are
forgiven. But the same rule works: forgiveness is an exception. Theoretically
offenses must be punished, always.
In
everyday lives there is the idea of "Forgive and Forget", and there
is an endless debate going on about whether it is right to do both, one, or
none. Men say that women forgive, but never forget. Which means they forgive
mistakes, but if the opportune moment arises, they bring it up and use it. And
men complain that that is not fair. But is it really?
We
are taught to learn from our mistakes, but if we forgive and forget, what will
stop the offenders from repeating the offense? What will protect us? Where is
the line between being generous and forgiving, to simply being easy to
manipulate and used? If we forgive too much, people stop being afraid to make
mistakes. If there is no punishment, then what makes a something bad different
from something good? Unless we count moral values, then practically nothing.
Punishment is vital. It makes the system work.
If
we forgive too much, we have the risk of making people too tempted to do whatever
they want, without any fear. So is forgiveness worth the risk? What makes it
worth it, love? Fear?
Women
seem more prone to forgiveness. For the same offense, women will forgive much
easier than men. Mostly I think they will do this for the sake of the
relationship. It seems like women are much more afraid to mistakes and ruin the
relationship, maybe because they are afraid of being left alone. Not exactly
sure why, maybe they are subconsciously aware of the fact that there are less
men than women in the world? Or they are just so happy once they find a man
that is good enough, and just want to hang on to him, no matter what? But men
seem like they can let go easier, and not regret it in the long run. That's one
thing I envy them for.
But
in some cases I think people are too forgiving. I think, because of fear or
helplessness, or because they want to do the 'right thing', people forgive
things they really shouldn't. For example, violence of any kind, cheating, or
similar domestic ''crimes'' should not be forgiven. Because they are not about
the situation in which they were committed, they are either relationship or
psychological issues, which cannot be resolved easily and will almost always be
repeated. Out of love, maybe, they may be forgiven once, but if any such
offense is repeated, then it is unforgivable. No exceptions. Follow the rule.
People,
of course, must strive to be kind and generous, but ultimately, we are not
angels, and we are not God.
Actually,
about God: the idea that can be seen in most religions is that God is all
merciful. He loves His children, and we must repent our sins, ask for forgiveness,
and our sins will be forgiven. In Christianity this is called absolution; and
traditionally it has even been practiced to give out “absolution certificates”,
which were supposed to guarantee forgiveness. I will refrain from commenting on
the oddness of this, but I will point out one thing: if God is all merciful,
then why is there the whole idea of heaven and hell? And the fear of committing
sins? If we can all be forgiven out of pure love, then what’s stopping us? Do
now, apologize later, no?
I
believe that people cannot, and should not be all-forgiving. We must protect
ourselves and get out of harmful situations while we can. We deserve happiness,
and we must not let the ideas of how we ‘should’ act to be considered ‘good’
people get in the way. After all, we are only human. We make mistakes. But we
should be smart enough to tell the difference between when it is the right
thing to do, and when it is not. And not be afraid to act on our decision.
...Coincidece...?
“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.” -Benjamin Spock
A very frequent
theme in my reflections, articles, blog posts, etc. is the general and complete
distrust we have towards ourselves and to our bodies. From the very simple
things, such as stuffing ourselves full of medicine at the slightest hint of an
illness, to not trying to interpret its signals and pushing it way beyond its
limits. The medicine topic I will cover sometime later, but what I want to
point out now is the general distrust, the contradiction between our minds and
hearts. The fact that we believe that we know better and more than our higher
‘I’, that only contacts with us through dreams, signs, hints, feelings,
warnings. The little voice in the back of your head, your guardian angel, the
‘gut’ feeling, third eye, your intuition, whichever you prefer. But these signs
are rarely something like a gigantic flashing neon billboard with the word
“stop” and fourteen exclamation marks. These things are on higher levels of
understanding, dealing with higher energies. So they are subtle. We have to be
open and know how to listen and interpret them, or else we might miss them.
It is fact that
intuition, or a way of obtaining higher knowledge exists. Scientists all around the word have been
studying this phenomenon, of “knowing without reasoning”. Countless tests and
examples exist, from laboratory testing, of guessing drawings on cards without
looking at them, to the countless predictions that psychics have made throughout
time. If you research, you will find that nearly every singe major catastrophe
has been predicted by psychics or a medium sometimes 10 or even more years
before the event actually happened! But because of people’s cynical outlook on
this, the predictions were ignored and the events occurred. The most famous
examples are perhaps Nostradamus and Vanga, who predicted the 9/11 attack on
the USA, the beginning of the World Wars, the death of Princess Diana, as well
as others.
But if you don’t
believe in that, let’s take a scientific approach: it has been proven
statistically, that airplane flights, or any other mode of travel for that
matter, that are doomed to crash have an unusually low number of passenger
turnout: many passengers change their mind at the last minute, many are late,
as opposed to successful trips, when passengers fly without hesitation and are
on time, its always at least a 15% difference. What influences the people to
miss the doomed trip? Coincidence?
Also a pretty
famous example: the novel “Futility” by Morgan Robertson, which tells the story
of a gigantic ship called the Titan, that crashes into an iceberg and sinks.
Curious thing is the novel was published in 1898, which is 14 years before the
actual Titanic was built, and sank. Coincidence?
What about the
predictions or tests I mentioned before? They cannot be coincidences: from
algebra we know that there is a certain coefficient of probability, which tells
of how likely an event can occur. Well it has been calculated how probable it
is that so many of the predictions will come true, or the probability of
guessing cards without looking. The results are much, much higher than they
should be. Mathematically it cannot be a coincidence. There has to be a
separate factor influencing the events. Fate? Intuition? This is where
scientists shake their heads. Because to be able to see the whole picture we
must look outside the box of materialistic and scientific thinking. Most people
nowadays believe in God, unquestionably, without any real materialistic proof.
Why is it then so hard to believe that there are higher forces that we can use
to make decisions, guess future events, etc? And if we can believe in them,
then, why are we so afraid to trust in them? Why are we so afraid to trust
ourselves?
“It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover.” Henri Poincare
Nothing is Impossible
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” - Oscar Wilde
Our
existence on Earth is temporary. Fact. We have a limited amount of
time, but also an unlimited amount of opportunities of how to spend it.
So, it is shocking to me then to observe exactly how many people live
their lives in passivity, refusing, or perhaps simply being afraid, to
take control.
As children our lives
are planned out for us by our parents or guardians. We live in a
passive state, because we do not yet have the freedom to choose. But
once we hit puberty, things start to change. Everybody has a breaking
point, in which the world suddenly goes from pink and fluffy to full
color, contrast, saturation and all that. We realize that we are able
to think and decide for ourselves. But for some strange reason, not
many people take full advantage of this power. We accept stereotypes,
rules and prejudices; we let ourselves be carried along with the flow.
And if we do use our power, we usually use it to protest against rules,
to do things we shouldn't, etc. Just because we can. But this is only
one aspect of this power, and not a very positive one at that.
Nothing is impossible.
In
other words, with a lot of drive and effort, anything is possible. But
why then so we let these opportunities slip by? Our lives, the time we
have is the most important thing we have, how can we be lazy about it?
"Every day, God gives us, as well as the sun, a moment when it is possible to change anything that is causing us unhappiness. The magic moment is the moment when a "yes" or a "no" can change our whole existence. Every day, we try to pretend that we do not see that moment, that it does not exist, that today is the same as yesterday and that tomorrow will be the same too. However, anyone who pays close attention to his day will discover the magic moment… a moment in which all the strength of the stars flows through us and allows us to perform miracles."
(By Paulo Coelho, from "By the river Piedra I sat Down and Wept")
We
settle into a routine, our safety blanket, and shut everything else
out. Because of Fear. It is the strongest force that holds us back. We
are afraid of the new, unusual, unknown. Because we cannot categorize
or stereotype something we haven't experienced, it doesn't fit in our
minds, so we push it away. We're afraid to make mistakes, of failing,
or regretting our decisions later.
But what are mistakes anyway? And who has the right to judge?
Why do you think that even YOU have the right to decide what was a mistake and what wasn't? How
do you know? You don't ever, ever see the Bigger Picture, of how
something terrible could have set of a chain reaction that lead to
something wonderful. You can only guess, regret, worry, etc. But what
for? You can think of what could of, should of, would of happened, but
in the end its simply a waste of precious time.
We make decisions. Every minute of every day. With these decisions we control the course of our lives.
Of
course there must be both good and bad things, mistakes are
unavoidable, but we must do the best we can, strive to be the best we
can be. If we never try we will never succeed. If we always retreat we
can never have victory.
So, what are you waiting for...?
So, what are you waiting for...?

Learning to think for ourselves part1: Belief in the Divine

OK. First of all I want to state that I respect all religious beliefs and preferences. I am going to try not to advertise or criticize any religion or try to convince you that God or anything else exists. Though my ideas might be a bit biased since I was raised as an Orthodox Christian, I have long strayed from the typical ideas of the Church. Once I opened my eyes.
All I will try to do is try to help you decide that for yourself. And be open to new things.
Think for yourself.
So, let's start from the basics.
Divine = Godlike = supernatural = extraordinary = unusual
What/who is ....?
God: - A supernatural, typically immortal being with superior powers.
| ||
Angel - a benevolent celestial being
-divine and supernatural messenger from a deity, or other divine entity.
Fairy- a mythical being who has magical powers
Spirit- a supernatural being, often but not exclusively without physical form
People have forgotten how to believe. Where has our childhood innocence gone? When and why did we start limiting our minds to just the 'normal' and so called 'real'?
Q: Do you believe in fairies? spirits? guardian angels?
A: I only believe in real things.
Q: But you believe in God don't you?
A: Yes
Q: So what do you think God is, a guy sitting on a cloud?
A: No.
Q: So then He is some sort of spirit, a concentration of energy, a supernatural being without physical form?
A: Yes
Q: So you are willing to believe in that, but you're not willing to believe in other supernatural beings, fairies, spirits, angels?
A: Those are mythical beings, they are not real.
Real (wiktionary) : Having physical existence or evidence.
People. THINK.
BY DEFINITION, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THERE TO BE PROOF OF GOD.
Because any type of proof is a physical thing. And He is not and cannot leave physical evidence.
I've been around a bit and seen and heard some strange stuff that people find and make them places for worship. "Footprint of the Virgin Mary", "House of Virgin Mary", "Cross of Jesus", "Holy grail aka Cup of Jesus", etc etc.
This reminds me of our modern celebrity obsession.
Like "wow, we found the sandals of Jesus Christ, how much do you think they'll sell for on Ebay.com?"
ITS ALL MISSING THE WHOLE POINT.
Jesus was a very wise person. There is almost no doubt that such a person existed. He said some smart stuff, so instead of worshiping the cup he drank from and kissing the ground he walked on how about actually, simply, following his ideas? Love one another. That's all. He did not come and say "im the son of God, worship everything I ever touched." That's not the point. He came to bring us some ideas. Good ones too. So instead of bombing each other with hatred and then going to Church on Sunday to make us feel better how about simply accepting his ideas and sharing a little love with the world each day?
The only reason why our minds are so limited, why we accept some ideas and others we push aside automatically, is because are lazy. We accept things when they are accepted by society. We have forgotten how to think for ourselves.
God is an widely accepted idea. It's actually expected to believe in some kind of deity, in our world mostly its unusual not to. There is a whole system that revolves around it, institutions, holidays, rules, symbols, jobs, places, limitations, prizes and punishments. We accept it because simply it has always been so, its something normal. Something we've been taught since we were little. And then we were forbidden to question things. Why? Because it made life easier for our parents, it made us easier to control by the system.
(By the way, a note about symbols: hasn't any other Christian every realized that we wear the symbol of the thing that killed our prophet? Sometimes its even shown with the actual body. The symbol of our religion is a killing device and a corpse. If you believe in the whole Jesus returning thing, do you think the first thing Jesus would love to see on this loyal followers is the image of the thing on which he was killed (physically)?)
When we try to think outside the box we can start to realize that everything that pertains to this system has nothing to do with God at all. The Holy Books were not sent by fax or e-mail from heaven. They were written by men. Edited and changed. And not even available to read freely until recent times. They are an instrument of control over society. And there is nothing wrong with that. Every society needs order and rules. But honestly, let's differentiate between the Church and spirituality.
If God is such a divine being, do you really think he cares what day you go to church? If you wear pants or a skirt? Whether or not you have your hair covered? Whether you drank water during fasting periods?
All the rules and limitations are simply that. Rules and limitations. Set by the Church, not by GOD, but by the institution that took the most powerful weapon - peoples fear of the unknown, and made a system of how to use it to control people.
Now, if this sounds cynical or atheistic at all I apologize, that was not my intention. Let me explain.
Belief and religion is different.
I believe in God. I believe in the idea of Love. Of divine energy.
I do not believe that sleeping through Mass every Sunday and telling your priest that you cheated on exams, and not eating or drinking for a few months a year makes you a good person, or that it makes God happy. What is he, your mother? If He is a Divine Being, then treat him as such. He doesn't need you to suffer for Him. He loves his Children, that's kind of the whole point- LOVE. Not pain or suffering, or abstinence, or limiting yourself. Love one another, respect each other. Of course, the Church's system is much easier, its modernized. People can't stick to the principles so they worked out a confession-punishment-forgiveness strategy. That helps people clear their conscience and helps them keep their institutions running and society under control. That's cheating.
So, back to what I started with. As children we knew nothing of rules and limitations. We were simply love. Pure love. No wonder people say that children can see angels, talk with them. Their minds and hearts are open. But then we grow up, find out that we evolved from monkeys and that everything else is b.s. and we loose our innocence. We reject anything that may make us seem stupid, childish or strange. We forget how to See. We close our minds and hearts. And then, ironically, we start to search for God. When He was there from the beginning..! It's like fishing for a fish in a bucket. It's already caught, just look at the bigger picture..! Sometimes maybe things really are that simple. You don't need to sacrifice yourself to deserve His love. You have it, simply from birth.
Of course, this is just my view of things. To each their own. I am always, always open to discussion.
But let me just say, if you believe in Love, then you believe in God, in Angels, in Spirits, in Energies. Just don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and open yourself up to the possibility of these things existing. Really. It's scary as hell I know, but honestly, do you really think our world is the only thing out there?
